Think your child has flu?

When children get flu it usually comes on suddenly and symptoms can include fever, chills, headache, muscle and joint pain, extreme tiredness, dry cough, sore throat and stuffy nose, and vomiting.  Young children may also have diarrhoea.

Most children who are fit and well recover fully from flu but it can be serious for some children.

Every year there are children in Wales who are so ill with flu that they end up in Intensive Care Units (ICUs), so if you are concerned, or your child has a long term health condition it’s important to discuss this with their GP surgery. Antiviral medicines may be needed.

There is more information about the symptoms and treatment of flu, including when to see a GP, on the NHS Direct Wales website.
